I've been wanting to build a bike for a long time, and not one of those Tamiya crotch-rockets, but rather an older bikes, and this BMW looked like a perfect project. The kit os an older Gunze Sangyo Hi-Tech kit, most of it is white metal (very crude castings, worse than MFH), but relatively highly detailed, with various materials used.

I started with cleaning all the white metal to make it look decent and prepare it for primer.

Plastic parts were also cleaned. They are much better molded than white metal, makes me think why Gunze decided on white metal after all. I also assembled the engine and filled all imperfections - ready for paint.

Finally, wheels were stripped of chrome, and assembled. Each individual spoke was glued into the rim. the fit is quite bad, so it took a while to get every spoke right, and rims to fit together. Then rim halves wouldn't fit to each other, and to the tire.... spent couple of hours before I could get them to fit and match...bad design for sure. So far this kit is a fit "disaster"! Finally, a mock up:

Nice looking build. Man I do not envy you having to spoke those wheels. Ouch that must be a hair puller there. Keep up the good work and hope to see more progress.

I'm thinking of getting metal legs, it's a risky operation but well worth it!

very nice job so far! I bet you could take an old MPC kit and make it look like a museum piece!

Looks good Alex.
Did you have to cut those spokes to size, or where they all cut to length for you? I only ask as I see the wires shooting out from the wheels.
Hope the builds starts to get better for you!

Great looking 'Old School' bike, err bike parts so far. And as always, perfect build, especially those wires would drive me crazy for sure.

Cool Alex, I have the 1941 Indian Scout to build, at least this will give me an idea of how to go about it. I nearly started it but decided on the Ferrari's instead.
