Revell 2011 Mustang

With the girlfriend out for the weekend I started these two kits.
Two times a 2011 Mustang. Agreed, the kit is a Revell 2010 Mustang but I prefer the 2011. The main reason being the engine; while the 2010 used the 4.6 engine, the 2011 has the all-new “Coyote”-engine, the 5.0 with standard 400 horsies. Not bad for a ponycar.

Plans are to make one Mustang pretty much stock, but with a California Special or similar front bumper, and one with the RTR package. The biggest work will be adapting the kit’s engines to the new Coyotes.
Box art and some pics of the real stuff:

Wheels: although this kit’s tires are an improvement over the previous Mustang tire, I am not the biggest fan of the wheels. The box art shows the wheels in a matt-grey color, but they are actually chrome. So, the wheels I have in mind are either the AVS Model 5 or Pegasus Vantage wheels for the stock Mustang, and the SA-70 WedsSport fot the RTR.
The 2011 Mustang has the choice of Brembo brakes, and because the kit’s brakes are the same as the previous-gen Mustang’s, I will swap them for some drilled brakes from my parts box.

Body mods: the front splitter and bigger front spoiler were made using strips of styrene sheet and then using Milliput.

The RTR spolier looks huge, maybe a but too huge. A first coat of primer revealed some spots that needed some more sanding.
I’m not happy with how the other front bumper came out, I think I will redo that one.
Side skirts were added, too, again with strips of styrene sheet. This is not the final version.

Chassis: when checking reference pics, I noticed that the chassis isn’t just plain black; some pics show some brown or dark red chassis, other have something grey-ish color. So I tried that too. First I primered the chassis, then desired parts wered masked, and sprayed black. Silver details were hand-painted afterwards. After some retouching it looks like this. I did only one chassis; I wanted to check how it looks
before doing the other one.

The floor panel was sprayed flat black. Times two.
Engine and suspension components were spray painted silver and flat black. Detailing and painting other parts was done with steel color. (Humbrol color 91)

A fine collection of parts for now.
Interior: seats were assembled, parts primered and then spray painted gloss light gray and some blue (forgot the color code, sorry). The light gray parts were masked and spray painted flat black. The same will be done with the blue parts; that will be the interior for the RTR Mustang.

Dash and steering wheel were spray painted black as well, and the brushed aluminium effect was added with steel color. I could have done that better. Oh well. One more dash to try.

That’s it for now, I took a flying start but it will go a bit slower from now on I think.
Adapting the engines will be a project on itself I think. I thought it might be easy with just adding some new valve covers, but it includes more thorough work than that. We’ll see. Thanks for looking.

Cool build Tim. I like your bumper modification's on the one mustang, And I think the blue interior will look pretty cool in the car.

Yes indeed, you're off to a flying start - I like your choice of rims and the bodywork should be interesting. It's also good to see those detailed photos of the chassis on the real thing, should make for an interesting paint job.
