About BMC's Projects

There is no competition involved in our projects. The projects are just a way to see each member's interpretation of the project's theme.

There are always three projects per year, which means each project's duration is four months.

Typically there are at least a couple of projects in the queue. Knowing what the projects will be ahead of time gives members a chance to plan ahead.

When a new project is being created it usually goes through two stages. First, our Projects Administrator will initiate a discussion in the forums to solicit ideas. Once the discussion has gone on long enough the Projects Administrator will select several of the ideas and put them to a vote. The winner of that vote will be the next forum project.

For project specifics please read the Projects section of our FAQ.

Race Car

Any race car, any race truck, any race bike, from any era of racing, qualifies. All forms of motorsports that fall into this criteria qualify. It has to have been, or still is, a licensed and sanctioned form of racing (venue). Also, each entry in the upcoming project must incorporate a tutorial in the build. If you plan on building multiple entries a different tutorial must be highlighted for each entry.

Scratch Build

Build any car, truck or motorcycle. It must include at least one scratchbuilt part. Not aftermarket parts. Custom-made parts. Anything from a simple hood scoop to a completely custom-built vehicle are welcome. Test and stretch your building skills.

Motorcycle

It can be as stock as a showroom model, or as wild as your imagination. But, it has to have less than four wheels. Trikes and bikes with sidecars are allowed.

1960s-1970s American Muscle Car

This is a factory 60s-70s American muscle car build. Big block V8s, as well as small block V8s like Mustangs and Chevelles will be accepted. The build must use parts that were available in that era of time. Prostreet is acceptable so long as you follow the rules of building it like it was built and raced back then.

Pickup Truck

The pickup truck must have a cab and a bed with the two separated by some sort of structure like metal or glass.

Convertible

The convertible can either be in kit form, or a realistic modification of a real-life convertible for which a kit was never made.

1940s Car

Let's not make this more complicated than it has to be. If it's a car, truck or van and it's from within the above time period it qualifies for entry in the project. Any after-market parts must have been available in the 1940s.

Movie Car

This can be a car from any movie that was not created specifically for television. It has to be one where the car was featured, not just the fifth car in the parking lot at the back of the scene. Those are the only requirements. You will need to name the movie and maybe one of the stars besides the car when writing the description.

Rally Car

The car should represent a car as it would appear on a rally event, be it at a local level, national level or at an international level.

1967 or 1969 Ford Mustang

You need to build a 1967 or 1969 Mustang. Build it custom, stock, resto, or any other type that you can come up with. AMT and Revell both make these cars, but if you have an original MPC kit, or another that hasn't been mentioned it qualifies. It doesn't have to even be 1/24 or 1/25 scale. Revell also made some 1/32 kits. It must be one of those 2 years.
