It has nice wheels, but they need some detail painting to get there. You can build it with or without side pipes. It has an option of a small cowl induction piece for the hood and contains decals for the SS version. It comes with a cover for the bed.
Nothing fit togeter well on this car except for the interior, which has nice seats and a detailed dash. The whole front clip barely fits and there is a huge line where it meets up. Modelers with patience will fill and sand the gap.
With so many El Camino kits on the market I would steer clear of this one. I couldn't stand the fit problems and inaccuracy so I just made mine into a crazy dual engine custom. Check it out in my gallery.
-Many custom parts like side skirts and stuff like that.-I thought it fit together rather well for an AMT.-Lots of decals with this kit.
-Decals on mine were hard to get to stick, and stay.-I thought the wheels were a bit small.-The wheels were hard to get on.-Mold lines were pretty bad.
This was one of my early builds. It came out ok. I would recomend this but not for a detailed build.
- There are custom parts available (side pipes, cowl for the hood, rear windown visor)- Quick build without many detailing options (Good to just throw on the shelf)- Two sets of rims available- Tonneau cover for the bed of the car- SS decals and slick SS front nose
- Front nose piece has a substantial gap between it and the body- Not much detail for the advanced builders- Solid rear metal axle and front wheels are a little unstable- Nervous moments putting the body to the chassis as it takes a little prying- Two sets of SS decals, but only the black really show. (the light grey version barely shows up unless the car is white)
This is a very basic AMT model. The instructions are clean and to the point without many modifications (I finished my kit with as much detail as I could in about 40 hours). This is the type of car you love to have on your shelf if you were a fan of that plastic nose on the mid-80's SS models. There is definitely nothing to brag about with this car and it matches the low expectations of an AMT kit. I built the car in the dark, DARK blue paint scheme, but was very discouraged when you could not see the light grey SS decals. Ended up going with the black decals and you can barely see them now.
