Pros

Very realistic rubber tires. Nice engine detail. Good interior detail. Kit included PE body emblems. Accurate model of a classice car. Instructions are very good and provide accurate color chart and all the factory stock color options for interior and body.

Cons

The engine compartment lid fit poorly.

Comments

This is an excellent kit if you are looking to build a stock VW, it is very accurate. The tire are realistic and really catch the eye when viewing the model. The addition of photo-etched emblems is a plus.

Pros

Very good fit on most parts, includes 1300cc engine which is pretty detailed considering it's size. includes metal transfers for emblems. Wheels and tyres are pretty good although i opted for after market wheels. Spare tyre for the trunk is provided ( i hate molded in spare tyres)

Cons

Some of the small parts required a little cleaning due to a little flash. (i'm nit picking here) it really is a good kit. The metal transfers are great, but I would have loved to have seen additional transfers or decals for the mud flaps.

Comments

This kit is great to build as a factory stock but offers heaps of other potential. You could go for a japanese style tuner by adding side skirts and wings (not provided), or a rusty wreck. The possibilities are almost as endless as this classic beetle. Highly recommended.

Pros

Very detailed flat 4 engine, opening trunk, lots of overall details. Good fit (for the most part), small metal-transfer set, (for VW emblem and 1300 emblem), no flash and nearly no molding lines, beautiful chrome, overall Tamiya quality.

Cons

Trunk and engine cover difficult to attach, rear bumper mount needs modification for bumper to sit correctly and rear taillights difficult to paint (housing and lenses one piece- you must paint housing with the body and mask the lenses).

Comments

Typical Tamiya quality, with the exceptions listed above. It builds to a great little model.

Pros

Good general fit and well engineered no unpleasant surprises when putting together the major sub assemblies. Realistic rubber tires with authentic tread pattern.
Great metal transfers for the boot-emblem and engine-size batch.
Nice interior detail with many separate parts.
Clear and easy to understand instructions with good color indications.
No truly problematic flash issues.

Cons

Front indicator lights are fully chromed and have no clear parts. Some mold lines in critical places, especially on some of the smaller parts with tiny details. Some of the parts were pipes for the heat exchanger with a coil-like surface; these had some misalignment between the two halves on each side of the mold line, I had to give up trimming these.
Interior side panels seemed to be slightly low compared to the window line.
Some chrome parts had injector channels in places that would expose the bare plastic on the model.

Comments

The flaws are easy to live with considering the overall accuracy of the model and the pleasure of building it. This kit is good example of, why I am such Tamiya-fan.

Pros

- Very crisp, clean moldings
- Fit is excellent
- A lot of detail all over
- Proportions and stance look accurate
- Clear and chrome parts are very nice and easy to work with (except tailpipes and taillights)
- Realistic rubber tires
- Posable steering
- Metal transfers for VW logo and writing on engine cover
- Perfect instructions
- Virtually no cleaning up required prior to assembly and painting

Cons

- Patience is required when dealing with the tailpipes and the bumpers.
- The taillights were a little hard to make right, as the housing and lenses are one, clear piece.
- No extra parts included, stock "only".

Comments

This kit was a joy to build. No issues, except a little brittle tailpipes and a rear bumper that was hard to set right. The cons I've listed can hardly be called "cons", they were the only things that got my sweat dripping a couple of times title=
All in all a VERY good kit, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good and accurate beetle kit.
